A select jury is about to decide which are the most important luxury hotels in the country, the region of Malaga is at the top with eight nominated establishments.

On June 6, the Spain Luxury Hotel Awards will be held with a ceremony in which 12 prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Beach Hotel, Business Hotel, City Hotel, Eco Hotel, Family Hotel, Hotel, Boutique Hotel, Hotel Suite, MICE Hotel, Mountain Hotel, Original Hotel and Wellness Hotel. Three hotels concur to each nomination, of the almost 100 who opted for the awards.

It goes without saying that any of the hotels would be a real enjoyment for the senses, and if I find it impossible to choose between the 100 … imagine between three! Mission impossible for me, I recognize it. The good thing is that this weight does not fall on a single person, the chosen ones have been selected by a specialized jury and the winners will be chosen by direct vote on the day of the gala, along with the online votes … Have luck! By the way, the gala will take place at The Westin Palace Madrid hotel (if you feel like going).

Regardless of the institutional winners, there are other winners, the municipalities and regions where these tourist and rest complexes are located. In the nominations we find that Malaga is the best positioned region with a whopping 8 hotels that opt ​​for so many awards, I doubt that anyone does not stay there … Malaga thus becomes one of the best places in Spain to practice tourism deluxe.

Of course, the first mention has to do with the Beach Hotel award, which is chosen by the Gran Meliá Don Pepe located in front of the sea, next to the beach of the same name. This five-star hotel houses three outdoor swimming pools, spa and rooms with a huge plasma TV overlooking the sea, gardens or mountains. Staying there you will have the possibility of using two tennis courts and many others of paddle tennis, and then give you a reward in its grill restaurant or its Tahini restaurant, double prize for the body.

In the category of City Hotel, we find the Gran Hotel Miramar Málaga, located in front of the Malagueta beach in a building inaugurated in 1926 and created by the architect and, for a few years, mayor of the city, Fernando Guerrero Strachan. Recently renovated by interior designer Aneta Mijatovic, it is a true jewel with 30,000 square meters of surface and 190 rooms, where you can enjoy 9,000 square meters of green areas.

Disputing the prize for the best Eco Hotel, we stumbled upon La Donaira, an ecological retreat located in the Serranía de Ronda that offers only 9 rooms, almost the opposite of Miramar (in terms of volume, of course). Of course, they promise a friendly and professional service, avant-garde facilities with spa and a number of outdoor activities that will leave us (happily) exhausted. An idyllic corner where to celebrate life.

In the selection of hotels for the family (Family Hotel) also has, the Malaga region, a spectacular nomination. This is the Marbella Club Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in Marbella, with Thalasso Spa, 10 tennis courts and 4 paddle tennis courts near the hotel, shops, equestrian center, golf course and, what families like best, a Kids Club of 5,000 square meters, where the little ones can enjoy to the fullest. The most interesting thing about the complex is its commitment to the holistic study with which they offer a variety of activities led by a multidisciplinary team.

The best Luxury Hotel comes together with two winners from the region, the well-known Gran Hotel Miramar and Finca Cortesin, five minutes from the Casares Bay beach. The hotel has a private beach club with infinity pool, restaurant and bar, and golf course designed by Cabell Robinson in which world championships have been held in 2009, 2011 and 2012. The complex also offers the possibility of buying a private villa with swimming pools and gardens only for its users, overlooking the golf course and designed by seven different architects. With the incentive of having 24-hour concierge service, cleaning, maintenance and repairs, we just have to pay and enjoy.

In the Hotel Suite category we meet again the Miramar (tri-nominee) and in the Mountain Hotel we see La Cala Resort Golf Hotel & Spa, located in the municipality of Mijas, in the middle of Costa del Sol, a corner between mountains in front to the Mediterranean that combines tranquility and relaxation, with a wide range of activities, a good site, ideal, also, to celebrate your wedding, by the way, they also sell villas … Can you imagine getting married and living there? The best: the four million square meters that the complex owns, mostly green areas.

Finally, the award for the Original Hotel may fall into two other Malaga candidates, so let’s go for them. One is Room Mate Valeria, belonging to the international hotel chain of the same name. His philosophy is that of friendship, so the names of his hotels are very personal (Valeria, Óscar, Aitana, Grace …). They boast of offering affordable luxury where they can enjoy innovation, design, comfort and good treatment. The best: they offer breakfast until 12, which is appreciated when your sheets are stuck …

The other is the Catalonia Ronda, ideal for bullfighting fans, since it is located in front of the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Ronda. It has a spectacular modernist facade included in the Protection Plan of the historic center of the city, offers 80 rooms and a roof terrace overlooking the Serranía de Ronda, the bullring, chill out area and (of course) an infinity pool .
