Thus, The Chicago Athenaeum and Global Design News, architecture museum and design magazine respectively, have awarded in 2022 the award of Best House of the Year of the Future to the home you are looking at. It is a proposal designed by a New York-based architecture studio called FORMA, which was founded just four years ago.
According to the award’s donors, the construction highlights the «vision to present pioneering architectural projects that define the present and shape the future of residential design globally.» That is, it is innovative. The study receives this distinction for the first time, which has taken into account the treatment of environmentally vulnerable and sensitive sites.
The house of the future is 144 meters and has all the needs
FORMA studio designed the home for the Arch Out Loud HOME competition in 2019, where it received an honorable mention. However, they had to wait three years to achieve greater fruit, so Miroslava Brook and Daniel Markiewicz, founders of the studio, will be very proud. They have created a residence of about 144 square meters as a «catalyst for collective encounters and a proactive response to the environment.»
They have called the home Miami House, and they understand that it responds to the demand for flexibility and desire to live where we like best. Our idyllic space responding to the needs generated by our way of life and coexistence. Obviously, one of the points that makes this building distinguishable is its proximity to the sea, literally being located on it.
A spacious home divided into two parts
The house seems to have been designed from top to bottom, with a terrace that becomes the main point of the building, like a meeting space. At this point we must understand the residence not as a response to a «traditional» family model, but rather as a kind of cooperative, given that the hypothetical client is a group of people gathered to finance the construction, people who wanted a swimming pool, an outdoor dining room. outdoors and garden.
The built volume rises above the sea, allowing it and nature to proliferate under its shadow. Inside, the sinuous building is divided in two from the center, formalized by a generous open staircase with plenty of flora, where there is, on one side, the residential area with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a living room on each floor.
The main construction materials are wood and glass
On the other side of the staircase, the common area with kitchen, main living room, toilet and dining room. All with the same aesthetics as the rest of the building. It is designed so that users meet sporadically anywhere in the building. But let’s get to the best part of the work: the pool. This occupies the theoretical volume of the second floor on one side of the house, and is visible through glass panels from the common area.
As for materials, it can be said that there are two that are most abundant: wood and glass. The first floods the interior coverings, from the stairs to the furniture, passing through the flooring and the exposed ceilings. Wood is an intangible construction asset and its presence is never worthy of reproach, but even so, a certain variety is always good. While glass is capable of keeping our homes safe and offers views of the wonderful waters of the Atlantic.
